William’s Pension

William’s pension file, with the Australian Repatriation Department (Repat. Dept.), opened on 26th July 1922, with an authority from the Paymaster General’s Office in Whitehall, London to the Colonial Treasurer, Sydney to pay William’s retirement pay. Having landed in Melbourne on 6th January 1920, William may have been waiting for the Paymasters office to arrange for his pension to be paid in Australia and relied upon his Uncle Robert to pay his expenses in the intervening period.

The file on William was to increase in size very quickly, as he was a prolific writer of letters to the Department.
